New details released in Iowa City child endangerment case
Feb. 20, 2012 12:23 pm
New information was released Monday in the case of an Iowa City mother who turned herself in Friday on child endangerment charges after doctors discovered her 22-month-old child had a blood-alcohol level of .097.
The 45-pound child had a level that was over the .08 level for an adult to be found guilty of driving drunk, Iowa City police said. The boy's brother told officers the toddler “drank pop and got sick.”
According to Iowa City police, 26-year-old Natasha Kriener, 2018 Waterfront Dr. #53, turned herself in at about 5 p.m. Friday.
Police said the boy's father took him to the emergency room at a local hospital Wednesday. Court records say the child was crying and had poor balance. He was admitted overnight for observation. When officers spoke with Kriener later that day, they found her blood-alcohol level to be .251, according to court records.
Kriener is the primary caregiver for the child, and was caring for the child prior to this incident, police said.
She was in the Johnson County Jail on Monday in lieu of a $20,000 cash-only bail.
