Mike Hlas (3-0, 29-10) — Never again will I drive from Cedar Rapids to Lincoln on Thanksgiving Night. Of course, I said the same thing in 2011. Iowa 23, Nebraska 21
Madison Hricik (2-1, 26-13) — Off to middle America, where there’s a some potential for snow during the game and the chance to secure an eight-win season on the line. Better question though, which state has better corn? Iowa 17, Nebraska 13
Jeff Johnson (3-0, 25-14) — Attending a gathering with friends for Friday’s game. There is a Nebraska fan in the gathering. I will not be shaking his hand pregame. Sorry Bill. Iowa 21, Nebraska 13
Rob Gray (2-1, 27-12) — Who can forget last season’s 13-10 thriller the Hawkeyes won against the Cornhuskers at Kinnick Stadium? I can’t. Iowa’s won 10 of the 14 meetings with Nebraska since both teams have been members of the Big Ten, and expect that trend to continue. Iowa 27, Nebraska 17
Beth Malicki (3-0, 26-13) — I think about Mike Hlas’ article after Zach Johnson’s 2007 Masters win often. As you all know, I don’t really follow sports. But after that piece about Zach’s new son, Will, and his big win, I have sought Hlas’ work out. And I’ve never been disappointed. Iowa 28, Nebraska 20
K.J. Pilcher (3-0, 25-14) — Remember, this is a school that “upgraded” its moniker from Bugeaters to Cornhuskers. Apparently, nosepickers was taken? Iowa 28, Nebraska 24
Iowa State (7-4, 4-4) at Oklahoma State (1-10, 0-8)
When: Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM
TV: ESPNU
Streaming: ESPN/FUBO TV
Line: Iowa State (-14.5)
Hlas — This probably isn’t the appropriate place to announce my 2026 candidacy for a seat in the U.S. Congress, but since I’m running on the theme “Inappropriate for Iowans” … Iowa State 35, Oklahoma State 7
Hricik — Cowboys don’t bode well in poor weather...sounds like an ideal set up for the Cyclones, who’ll hand Oklahoma State its 11th loss of the year. Iowa State 28, Oklahoma State 3
Johnson — Iowa-Iowa State rematch in a bowl game would be pretty cool. Just sayin’ … Iowa State 38, Oklahoma State 21
Gray — One might say the Cowboys are “due” after two straight one-score losses that extended their 17-game skid in Big 12 play. One would be wrong — unless the Cyclones play very poorly in Stillwater. Iowa State 31, Oklahoma State 13
Malicki — The boss behind these pick ’em is Gazette sports editor, J.R. Ogden. Not only does he wrangle this wild bunch, but his decades in journalism speak to how much he cares about local sports coverage. Iowa State 34, Oklahoma State 19
Pilcher — Oklahoma State’s pass defense is one of the worst among power conference teams. Expect Rocco Becht to strike oil in Boone Pickens Stadium. See what I did there? Iowa State 38, Oklahoma State 20
Wisconsin (4-7, 2-6) at Minnesota (6-5, 4-4)
When: Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 2:30 PM
TV: Fox Sports
Streaming: Fox Sports/FS1
Line: Minnesota (-1.5)
Hlas — Autographed copies of the coming Sunday’s newspaper with my final column will be available for $1,000. The ones with Caitlin Clark’s autograph, that is. If I signed them, fish would jump out of the Cedar River to wrap themselves in them. Minnesota 20, Wisconsin 10
Hricik — Wisconsin has seemed to hit a stride in the final month of the year, so don’t be surprised if the Golden Gophers have their senior day spoiled. Wisconsin 24, Minnesota 13
Johnson — Guilty pleasure: watching re-runs of “Cops.” Minnesota 21, Wisconsin 20
Gray — The boat has sprung a leak and the Badgers’ claws are finally sharpened. Wisconsin 27, Minnesota 21
Malicki — Both men are moving on with the changing ownership. Their combined years of working in newsrooms eclipse my age... by a lot. That is to say, this is a loss and I can’t help but feel a wild sense of sadness regarding local journalism and its future. Wisconsin 23, Minnesota 21
Pilcher — We went from Empty Nest to Full House this week. Very fitting since our family resembles a late 1980’s sitcom at times. We’re just missing a Bronson Pinchot cameo with the Paul Bunyon Axe. Wisconsin 20, Minnesota 17
