Holy buckets!
It’s been a lucrative week for two Iowa natives and Iowa collegians.
Wednesday, Keegan Murray of Cedar Rapids Prairie and the Iowa Hawkeyes agreed to a five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension with the Sacramento Kings.
Murray was the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He is entering his fourth season with the Kings, and will be under contract to them through the 2030-31 season.
He averaged 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 34.3 minutes in 76 games last season. He will miss the first four to six weeks of this season after suffering a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and undergoing surgery.
His twin brother, former Hawkeye Kris Murray, is entering his third season with the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers.
Thursday, Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green of Cedar Falls and the University of Northern Iowa agreed to a four-year extension worth $45 million.
Green averaged 7.4 points for Milwaukee last season. He was undrafted in 2022, but has gradually become a key player for the Bucks over three years. Last season, he scored in double-figures in three games of Milwaukee’s first-round playoff series loss to the Indiana Pacers.
He shot 42.4 percent from 3-point distance last season, and was 20-of-46 from deep in the playoffs.
