Oct. 3, 2014 3:39 pm
Jay Borschel and Dan LeClere shared the spotlight, winning their fourth state title in the same year.
It's only fitting that the former University of Iowa teammates make their way into another exclusive list together.
Borschel and LeClere will be inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Wrestling Hall of Fame at the 2015 state wrestling tournament in February at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Four-time champions Mack Reiter, of Don Bosco, and Hudson's C.J. Ettelson and former Davenport Assumption and Cedar Rapids Washington head coach Wade King round out the induction class.
The ceremony will be the first time four four-time champions will be inducted in the same year and all four will lead the Grand March of medalists before the Saturday night finals.
Borschel, an assistant coach at Northwestern University, won Class 4A titles from 2002-05, becoming the Metro's only four-time champion. Borschel compiled a 163-1, winning his last 127 matches, and captured titles at 103, 125, 152 and 171. He went on to become a two-time All-American for the Hawkeyes, claiming an NCAA title in 2010.
LeClere was a four-time state champion at North-Linn from 2002-05. He posted an impressive 167-2 mark. LeClere won 1A crowns at 119, 130 and two straight at 140. He was a national qualifier in 2008 for the Hawkeyes.
Reiter and Ettelson became the first duo to win their fourth titles in the same season. They completed their quest in 2003, which was the same tournament Borschel and LeClere won championships as sophomores.
King is currently the head football coach and Athletics Director at Assumption. He coached for 18 seasons, winning six total state team titles with the Knights.
