Gary Joe Smith, 75, of Marion, formerly of Edgewood, passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, May 7, 2015. A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church Monday at 11 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 10. Friends may also call on the family at the church Sunday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., ending with a Masonic service.
Gary was born to Wayne and Joyce (Culbertson) Smith on Nov. 19, 1939. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1959. Gary work at Rockwell Collins in a variety of positions over his 36 1/2-year career before retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the Hawkeye Motorcycle Club and played "cowboy" in Desperado at Ushers Ferry. He enjoyed woodworking and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He could never say no. Gary was also a Allis Chalmers enthusiast.
Gary is survived by his wife, Joyce, and sons, David Smith of Apple Valley, Minn., Alan Smith and Alan's son, Kelby, of Enumclaw, Wash., and Randy (Jamie Lankford) Smith of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
