Iowa City man accused of driving drunk with kids in vehicle

IOWA CITY – An Iowa City man was arrested Thursday after authorities said he was driving drunk with two young children in his car.

Joshua L. Bauwens, 29, of 4765 Sand Rd. SE, was pulled over at 9:10 p.m. on Sand Road for allegedly speeding and having a light out.

Inside Bauwens' truck were two girls ages 4 and 7, according to a criminal complaint.

An Iowa State Patrol officer reported that Bauwens' breath smelled moderately of alcohol and that he failed three field sobriety tests and blew a .10 on a preliminary breath test. A subsequent test put his blood-alcohol concentration at .12, according to the complaint. The legal limit in Iowa for operating a motor vehicle is .08.

Bauwens faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and child endangerment.
