Death of Cornell College student under investigation in Mount Vernon
The student was found in a dorm room on campus

State and local officials are investigating the death of a Cornell College student who was found in a dorm room Thursday night.
First responders were called to the campus in Mount Vernon at 8:13 p.m. Thursday, after a campus safety officer found a student unconscious and not breathing in a dorm room, according to a news release from the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department.
The student was dead upon emergency responders’ arrival. The student’s name has not been released
In a notice to the college community on Friday, Cornell officials said the student had “unexpectedly passed away” and there was no active threat to campus.
The college noted that most students are away from campus for winter break, which will last through Jan. 10.
According to the college’s release, the death is being investigated by the State Medical Examiner’s office and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department.
