Defending Class 4A state champion Pleasant Valley claimed victory on its home course Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, as the second-ranked Spartans defeated No. 1 Johnston and three other teams ranked in the top 10 in their class at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf.
Pleasant Valley won the team title with 51 points; Johnston was second with 80; Edina, ranked fourth in Class AAA in Minnesota, was third with 93; Iowa City High, ranked fifth in Iowa 4A, was fourth with 95; and Naperville North, ranked second by MileSplit in the Illinois 3A ratings, rounded out the top five with 107.
Ninth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie placed seventh, No. 13 Iowa City West was eighth and No. 17 Iowa City Liberty placed ninth in the 15-team standings.
Emma Chesterman of Dubuque Senior won individual honors, running the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 38 seconds. Joley Sullivan of Davenport Central was the runner-up in 18:45. Abigail Burns led City High with a sixth-place finish (18:59) and Prairie’s Harper Groteluschen (eighth, 19:14) and City High’s Grace Hamann (ninth, 19:17) and Eliza Doster (11th, 19:19) also finished in the top 11.

Dubuque Hempstead's Chelsea Heiberger (346) placed 39th.
