IOWA CITY — Iowa tight end Addison Ostrenga “probably” will not be available for the Hawkeyes’ Big Ten footbal game against Washington on Saturday, head coach Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday.
“I don’t see anything that’s realistic to think he’ll make it back,” Ferentz said during his weekly news conference.
Ostrenga suffered an injury in Iowa’s 35-7 loss to Ohio State last weekend. The Sun Prairie, Wis., native is third on the team with 11 receptions and fourth on the team with 63 receiving yards.
Ferentz said Zach Ortwerth, a second-year tight end from St. Louis, is the “next guy up” in Ostrenga’s absence. Other options include fullback/tight end Hayden Large, who has done an “unbelievably great job.”
“I’m still not sure how he ended up here, but I’m really glad he is here,” Ferentz said of Large, “because he’s really been a big contributor for us.”
