What to know: The Hawkeyes end their West Coast trip in Seattle with a matchup against Washington, marking the third West Coast-area team Iowa has faced in as many games.
Since Iowa’s three-game skid in mid-January, the Hawkeyes have won the last four consecutive matchups — highlighted by guard Bennett Stirtz’s career-high 32 point performance against Oregon Sunday night.
The Hawkeyes’ defense is among the best in the Big Ten, holding every opponent under its team scoring average this season. Iowa’s 63 points per game allowed is also the fourth-fewest in the country — with Iowa holding four opponents under 60 points in a game.
Iowa also had four players reach double figures against Oregon: Stirtz, forward Alvaro Folgueiras, guards Brendan Hausen and Cooper Koch.
Head coach Ben McCollum said despite guard/forward Tavion Banks dealing with an injury, he anticipates the senior being available against the Huskies.
“I think he’s doing OK,” McCollum said Tuesday morning. “I think it got a bit sore throughout that game. I think that’s what happened, and yeah, hopefully he’ll be good to go.”
Washington has won two of its last three games, but have lost six of its last nine. The Huskies are also without their third-best scorer, Desmond Claude, who is one of four players averaging in double figures (13.3).
Hannes Steinbach leads Washington with 17.6 points per game, with Zoom Diallo following suit with 15.2 points per game. Wesley Yates III is the third available Husky in double-digits, scoring 13.3 per game.
“They’re talented,” McCollum said. “They went into the transfer portal and got after it ... they’re big, they’re physical. I think (Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle) does a great job of putting them in position to put pressure on the rim.”
