Iowa guard Bennett Stirtz named to preseason men’s basketball All-Big Ten team
Stirtz was the Missouri Valley Conference’s Player of the Year last season at Drake

Iowa senior guard Bennett Stirtz has been named to the 10-player preseason All-Big Ten men’s basketball team, voted upon by a media panel.
Stirtz is a first-season Hawkeye, having transferred from Drake after being the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year there last season. He led the MVC in scoring (19.2 points per game) and steals (2.2), and also averaged 5.7 assists.
Stirtz also has been named a preseason fourth-team All-American and a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.
The conference’s preseason Player of the Year is Purdue senior guard Braden Smith, a unanimous choice. He and Stirtz are joined on the preseason All-Big Ten team by:
Yaxel Lendeborg, Michigan; Nick Martinelli, Northwestern; Bruce Thornton, Ohio State; Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad, Oregon; Trey Kaufman-Renn, Purdue; Donovan Dent, UCLA; John Blackwell, Wisconsin.
