The NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder added wing Payton Sandfort from Iowa to their training camp roster Monday.
Tuesday, he was waived.
It wasn’t a surprise. The Thunder signed Sandfort to set him up to join their G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. He’ll receive a bonus worth up to $85,300 if he spends 60 days with the Blue.
Sandfort originally joined the Thunder in June. He was on their NBA Summer League roster but didn’t play because he was rehabbing from surgeries to two torn labrums.
As a senior last season, Sandfort started in all 33 games for Iowa. He averaged 16.7 points and 6.0 rebounds. He played in 134 games as a Hawkeye.
