Two people were arrested over the weekend on charges that they broke into a Cedar Rapids home Friday with a gun.
Dejonte Davis, 25, of Keokuk, and Jaelyn Miller, 21, of Cedar Rapids, are both charged with first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony. Davis also is charged with willful injury resulting in a serious injury, possession of a firearm by a felon, going armed with intent, use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime and first-degree harassment.
According to criminal complaints, Miller and Davis were seen on Ring doorbell footage approaching the front door of a house in the 200 block of 26th Street Dr. SE Friday night. Residents inside the house saw them on the cameras and watched them place a piece of tape over the lens before running to the side of the house.
A man who was inside the house went to the front door to see who was outside, and when he opened the door Miller and Davis came back to the front of the house, the complaint states. Davis forced his way inside the house by pointing a gun at the man at the door and threatening to kill him, according to the complaint.
Davis assaulted the man at the door, who suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Once Davis and Miller entered the house, they were detained by other residents of the home until police arrived and arrested them, according to complaints.
Both Davis and Miller had their first appearances in court on Monday. Davis is being held in the Linn County Jail on a cash-only $50,000 bond, and Miller is being held on a cash-only $25,000 bond.
