HIAWATHA — An individual is being treated at an area hospital after firing gunshots at officers from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop near Hiawatha.
The individual is suspected to be involved in a Cedar Falls carjacking that led to a pursuit that ended along Interstate 380 near Hiawatha, per a brief statement posted to social media by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

The department states the suspect, who is not otherwise identified, fired shots at officers and was shot themselves during the exchange. The individual is now being treated at an area hospital for undisclosed injuries.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says multiple agencies are involved and that the investigation continues. More information will be released this afternoon, and the department states there is no threat to the public in the meantime.
