CEDAR RAPIDS -- One of the two juveniles who were arrested Friday in relation to a shooting in Cedar Rapids has been identified, after he was charged with multiple felonies and his case was moved to adult court.
Gerald Vance, 16, is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon — a class C felony — and willful injury resulting in bodily injury, going armed with intent, and reckless use of a firearm resulting in bodily injury — all class D felonies. He was also charged with minor armed with a dangerous weapon and person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, both of which are serious misdemeanors.
According to a criminal complaint, Vance had been arguing with some other people in the street Friday evening in the 6600 Block of 1st Ave West. He pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the people he’d been arguing with.
One person, Lisa Turnmire, was hit in the back by a projectile that ricocheted from the shots fired, the complaint states. She did not need hospital treatment for her injuries, according to a press release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Police responded to the scene at 6:26 p.m., and found Vance with a revolver. No shell casings were found at the scene, but the shooting was captured on doorbell cameras in the neighborhood.
Vance had his first appearance in court on Monday and is being held on a cash-only bond of $30,000.
Another juvenile, a 17-year-old who has not been identified, was also arrested after the shooting and charged with minor armed with a dangerous weapon, person ineligible to carry dangerous weapon, and possession of a controlled substance — marijuana.
