An Iowa City man who was charged with earlier this week with sexual abuse of a juvenile, was again charged Friday with sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl between August and November of 2024.
Martin Edgardo Menjivar, 58, was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual abuse, Class B felonies. A judge, during an initial appearance Friday, set his bail at $75,000 and issued a no contact order to protect the child.
Between August and November 2024, Menjivar created situations to be able to spend time alone with the 5-year-old in his vehicle, according to a criminal complaint. In three separate incidents, he got into the backseat of his vehicle with the child and sexually abused her. The child told him to stop and tried to “physically” stop him but couldn’t.
Menjivar was initially charged on Tuesday for a different incident of second-degree sexual abuse of a juvenile girl on April 7, under a similar situation in his car. He picked up the girl at a predetermined location and put her in the backseat of his car and got in behind her. He then took photos of her naked and sexually abused her.
