CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids Xavier senior A.J. Evans has committed to play college basketball at James Madison, he has confirmed.
The 6-foot-8 center averaged 11.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game last season for Xavier, which made it to the Class 3A semifinals of the state tournament.
He also played in 22 games as a sophomore, starting 10. He is a starting tight end for Xavier’s football team, catching two passes for 44 yards in the Saints’ season-opening win last week over North Scott.
The NCAA’s early signing period for basketball is November 12-19. James Madison went 20-12 last season, tying for the Sun Belt Conference championship under first-year head coach Preston Spradlin.
The school is located in Harrisonburg, Va.
