SPRINGVILLE — When you’ve got Rowan Jacobi, you can cover up some flaws.
OK, so Springville missed all 18 of its 3-pointers Friday night. It didn’t hurt the Orioles a bit.
Jacobi’s final game at Machovec Gymnasium was both brilliant and memorable — 44 points, 16 rebounds — and fourth-ranked Springville defeated Lone Tree, 63-37, in a Class 1A girls basketball regional semifinal Friday night.
“It’s awesome to win here one more time,” said Jacobi, who will play at the University of South Dakota next season. “We came out with a win on a night that we didn’t score all that well.”
A mobile, athletic 6-foot-2 post, Jacobi converted 17 of 25 shots from the floor, 10 of 12 from the line.
“She gets up and down the floor, and she hustles her butt off,” Springville Coach Christina Zaruba said. “It’s hard when (opponents) have four (defenders) on her, but the other kids make sure that they find her.”
Proof of that is the Orioles’ 18 assists, including six from Lexi Dietiker.
Springville (23-1) advances to Wednesday’s 1A regional final against No. 15 Lansing Kee (16-7).
Tip is 7 p.m. at Manchester.
“Once we get the threes going again, we’re going to be pretty well off,” said Kalleigh Greene, who — like Jacobi — made her final home-court appearance Friday.
The Orioles made this a drama-free endeavor immediately. They scored the first 14 points of the game and held Lone Tree (16-8) without a field goal for the first 9 minutes, 15 seconds.
By then, it was 18-1.
Lone Tree made a nice push to get within 22-14, but the Orioles scored the final nine points of the half (seven from Jacobi) to push the margin to 31-14.
Addison Merritt didn’t have her outside shot going, but still eight points and eight steals. Greene posted five points and nine rebounds, Jacey Martin six points and seven boards.
Senior guard Finley Jacque compiled 24 points and six steals for the Lions.
