We want to engage the community in a meaningful, daily conservation about topics selected by the public and Gazette brand editors. Gazette editors will determine questions using the following criteria:
- Relevance to the website’s target audience
- Timeliness
- Ability to generate website traffic
- Audience requests
In order to engage lively, informed conversation we want to ask questions that do the following:
- Create or add to knowledge being disseminated
- Generate proposed solutions to problems
- Entertain us, but without making personal attacks on individuals
Questions that do this:
- Are free of inherent bias or points of view (open to comments from all perspectives)
- Include enough background information to appropriately frame the issue
- Include links to related content or background information as appropriate
- Are well-defined, to keep users from veering off topic
- Don’t revisit obsolete or dated issues, although new developments that return the issue to the public forefront will appear
