WHY IT WAS IMPORTANT:
It gave Iowa the lead and ultimately the victory.
THE QUOTE 1:
'The clock's always ticking. You just kind of buckle down and do what you're coached, do what you've been wanting to do the whole game. Try to get what you can, what they give you and move the chains and get in the end zone.” - Iowa QB Jake Rudock
THE QUOTE 2:
'We knew that there was a point in time where if we didn't convert that was going to be the end of it. So we just went out there and did what we had to do and kept going.” - Iowa TE Jake Duzey
THE QUOTE 3:
'It was well executed. I'm pretty sure we couldn't have done it a year ago, and I don't think we would have two years ago either, safe to say. Hopefully that's a positive we'll take out of the game. That and staying in there and never giving up.” - Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz.
THE ANALYSIS:
Two Iowa wide receivers lined up at the right off the line of scrimmage, and Duzey also was positioned on the right but on the line. Iowa's other wide receiver, Tevaun Smith, was on the line of scrimmage to the left. Smith sprinted toward the back of the end zone, taking two defensive backs with him. Running back Damon Bullock ran to the left out of the backfield, where he was double covered by linebacker Ben Ingle and defensive end Osa Igbinosun. Duzey had a clean break and ran a cross route to the left. Duzey cut behind Igbinosun and was open at the 6. Duzey caught the ball, turned up the field and raced into the end zone.
