What position will Drew Cook play at Iowa?

CEDAR FALLS – If you watched Drew Cook play Friday afternoon, you could make a case for him being a quarterback or a tight end at the next level.
The Iowa City Regina senior completed 13 of 16 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown, as the Regals won the Class 1A state championship, 38-21, over West Lyon at the UNI-Dome. It's Regina's record fifth consecutive title.
Late in the game, Cook lined up wide and ran down an arching pass to the right corner of the end zone from Nathan Stenger. It was a very good over-the-shoulder catch.
So what's it going to be at the University of Iowa, Drew?
'Don't know, yet,” he said. 'Right now, I'm just excited to be going to the University of Iowa and being a Hawkeye.”
Cook's dad, of course, is Regina head coach Marv Cook, an all-American tight end at Iowa and all-pro in the NFL. Drew's got that prototypical tight end size at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds.
But he also can make some big-boy throws. He zipped some out routes to receivers to convert long third downs for Regina (13-1).
On the very first offensive play of the game, he took a pitch from teammate Conner Brown on a double-reverse flea flicker and connected with a wide-open Stenger for a 47-yard touchdown that helped the Regals play from on top right away.
'We came into this game knowing that if we had good field position on that first drive, we were going with it,” said Cook. 'That reverse flea flicker really worked out. We practiced it a couple times a day this week. Definitely. It's been in the playbook for a couple of years.”
Cook finished his senior season with 31 touchdown passes and just three interceptions, one coming Friday. West Des Moines Dowling's Ryan Boyle also has committed to Iowa, so it'll be interesting how this all plays out for the Hawkeyes in a couple of years.
'I love playing quarterback,” Cook said. 'When I first talked to Coach (Kirk) Ferentz, he said they would start me at quarterback and see how things went. So that's where I'm at right now.”
Marv Cook was asked after the game if this was his finale as head coach at Regina. There have been season-long rumors that he might take a Class 4A job next season.
Cook won his 100th game in eight seasons at Regina and has a stunning career record of 100-5.
'Like always, I'll just re-evaulate everything,” Cook said. 'I love what I'm doing, I love the school, love being a part of it. More than anything else, I love being around these kids. I feel blessed to be able to coach them, love my assistant coaches. For me, it's an escape from everything else because I get to be around guys that truly love the game and have a passion for it.”
