Iowa City police looking for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect after shooting

IOWA CITY - Iowa City police are looking for a man believed to be armed and dangerous after an early morning shooting.
Officers responded to 1946 Broadway St., Apt. E for a report of shots fired around 2:37 a.m. Tuesday. The caller told police the male shooter had taken off in an unknown direction. Police searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect.
Based on victim and witness statements, the shooter was identified as 28-year-old Diamond S. Wilson.
Police said the victim and Wilson got into an argument inside the apartment. During the argument, Wilson pulled a black handgun, pointed it at the victim and fired a single shot. The victim was able to avoid being shot and was not injured, police said. Wilson then fled the scene.
Wilson is a light-skinned black man, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 155 pounds with braided hair to his shoulders. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, tan cargo shorts, black shoes and a black and gray Chicago hat. He is known to stay at different residences throughout Johnson County, police said.
Police want to speak with Wilson and believe he is armed and dangerous. The department's investigations unit has been called into assist and charges are pending, police said. Anyone who spots Wilson is asked to call 911 and discouraged from approaching him.
