OSKALOOSA - Former Hawkeye Tyler Sash has pleaded guilty to public intoxication for an incident in May, according to court records.
Sash, 26, of Oskaloosa, pleaded guilty to public intoxication on Oct. 29, court records show. He was fined $65 and a second charge of interference with official acts was dropped.
Sash was arrested on May 10 in Oskaloosa after an Oskaloosa police officer spotted him driving his scooter around 1:30 a.m. Police said rather than pull over, Sash continued to drive before ditching the scooter and taking off on foot. He hid behind a tree and fell down during the pursuit, police said.
An officer used a Taser to subdue Sash, who resisted arrest during handcuffing. Police said he smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking, but refused a breath test.
Sash played for the Hawkeyes from 2008 to 2010, starting 37 games, including the final 34 of his college career, according to the University of Iowa football team's website. His 13 interceptions rank fifth in school history and his 392 interception return yards are an Iowa career record and rank fourth all-time in the Big Ten Conference, according to UI.
Drafted by the New York Giants in 2011, Sash had 25 tackles in the NFL and one forced fumble. He was cut from the team in August 2013.
