DES MOINES - Matt Whitaker's campaign for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination promised he would 'his share of endorsements” before the June 3 primary.
Monday, the former U.S. Attorney from Clive received the endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who called the election of a Republican from Iowa 'crucial” if the GOP is to win control of the Senate.
Perry, the fifth-place finisher in the 2012 Iowa Republican precinct caucuses, cited Whitaker's experience as a business owner and federal prosecutor as well as his faith in explaining his endorsement.
'Matt participated in his first Iowa caucus at the age of 17, and has been a fighter for the conservative movement ever since,” Perry said. 'He's not a politician and he's not new to the Republican Party. The time is now to nominate Republicans who will not just win in November, but who will go to Washington to rein in the size, role and scope of the federal government.”
Perry, who hosted a Dallas fundraiser recently to aid Whitaker's campaign, called him a 'constitutional conservative who can win.”
