The state's second-highest salaried superintendent, according to Iowa Association of School Boards data, will receive a raise.
During their most recent regular meeting, on June 23, Cedar Rapids Community School District school board members approved boosting Superintendent Dave Benson's annual base salary to $229,104 for July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017 - an $8,132 increase from his 2013-14 salary of $220,972.
'Dr. Benson's salary increase was based on the same increase as district administrators and the three-year extension is standard,” wrote Laurel Day, board secretary and executive administrator to the superintendent, wrote in an email to The Gazette.
On June 9, board members approved a 2014-15 package including a 3.32 percent increase - totaling $355,482 in additional money - for district administrators.
Benson's new agreement also includes an annual $15,000 contribution 'to a tax-sheltered annuity” of his choice, an increase from the 2013-14 figure of $12,000.
