Assisted-living complex planned for Robins

Ground was broken Thursday for Emery Place, a 40-apartment assisted living and memory care community in Robins.

SherMar LLC will own the facility at 901 S. Mentzer Rd., and Senior Housing Management in Cedar Rapids will manage the complex, which is expected to open in spring 2015.

Emery Place will be a certified assisted living community through the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. The new community will feature private apartments as well as common areas such as a central dining room with restaurant style dining, exercise room, spa, beauty salon and private gathering areas for family and friends.

Emery Place also will offer a specialized, secured environment for people with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The secured memory care unit is designed to meet the needs of individuals who require supervision and/or assistance with activities of daily living, through daily programming.

Emery Place will be staffed with trained professionals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The community also will have a full-time registered nurse, community manager, life enrichment coordinator and culinary coordinator on-site.

Rinderknecht Associates of Cedar Rapids is the contractor for the project.

Senior Housing Management, 208 35th Street Dr. SE, Suite 500, provides management services for 14 other communities in Iowa.
