BURLINGTON - The subject of a manhunt in Cedar Rapids last week is now charged with escape in Des Moines County.
James Duane Standfield, 42, was charged this week with escape or absence from custody, a serious misdemeanor, online records show.
According to police, Standfield was on a Burlington Trailways bus that left West Burlington that morning and arrived at the Eastern Iowa Airport shortly after 12:20 p.m. Standfield was scheduled to leave on a 2:30 p.m. bus from the airport for Kansas City but disappeared before the departure time.
Police said there was a warrant for Standfield from Iowa Medical and Classification Center, near Oakdale in Johnson County.
Local police and federal agents extensively searched around the airport and surrounding areas before locating Standfield in the parking lot of the Clarion Inn on 33rd Ave SW.
Standfield remains in the Des Moines County Jail.
