A homeless man is accused of breaking into an Iowa City home and stealing frozen food.

Iowa City police were called to a home on Davis Street around 6 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man trying to break into the home. When officers arrived on the scene, they spotted 21-year-old Davon’te D. Coleman trying to get into the house through the front window screen.

Police said Coleman had entered the home through the back door, had taken frozen food and tried to leave. Three of the residents were at home at the time of the break-in, police said.

Coleman was arrested and faces one count of second-degree burglary, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
