Leah V. Winter, 81, of Evergreen Estates II, died there Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, following a long illness. Memorial Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Inurnment: St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will greet friends after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Leah is survived by her children, Daniel (Mary) Winter of St. Louis, Mo., Mary (Kenneth) Goldsmith of Cedar Rapids, David (Sheila) Winter of Davenport and Barbara (Randy) Stansbury of Bettendorf; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Garfoot of Decatur, Ill.
Leah was preceded in death by her husband, James (1988); son-in-law, Kenneth Mooney; and six brothers.
Leah Virginia Winter was born April 23, 1931, in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of Mathias Harry and Elizabeth (Wylder) Heneghan. She married James Everett Winter on Feb. 18, 1951, at St. Thomas Church in Decatur. She worked as a secretary at Kirkwood Community College for 15 years, retiring in 1992.
Leah was a member of St. Martha’s Circle and St. Jude Catholic Church. She loved to travel and was able to see many different countries. She was Employee of the Year at Kirkwood Community College in 1988 and received the President’s Award.
Leah was known for her laugh and love of people. She was a fine homemaker and a loving mother and friend who will be missed by all.
