Wilson, Avis Lucille
Avis Lucille Wilson, 75, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Coggon, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at the United Church of Christ, Central City. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City.
Survivors include her husband, Don; daughters, Teresa Avis of Central City, Kelly (Todd) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Lori (Bob) Carpenter of Central City, and Karla (Doug) Fuller of Center Point; five grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Sarah, Matt, and Cody; five great-grandchildren, Kinnick, Nathan, Davon, Brenden, and Braden; and one brother, Eldon Mangold of California.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie; her father and stepmother, Dale and Rowena Mangold; two brothers, Roger Clair Mangold, who died in infancy, and Alan Mangold; her sister, Marilyn Thomas; son-in-law, Dave Avis; and grandson, Patrick Carpenter.
Avis was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Manchester, the daughter of Dale and Minnie (Huls) Mangold. She married Don Wilson in July 1955. Avis worked for several different manufacturers in the Cedar Rapids area for many years. She enjoyed the outdoors and liked camping, gardening, and driving though the park. Avis loved animals and liked watching the birds. She took joy in music, drawing, crossword puzzles, and attending arts and crafts shows. Mostly, Avis loved being surrounded by her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Judy, Dedra, and Teresa’s close friend Cheryl, and the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
