Charlotte Verna (Hansen) Whitenack

Charlotte Verna (Hansen) Whitenack, 92, formerly of Center Point, passed away, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, where she has been a resident the past five years. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at First Christian Church, Center Point, by the Rev. Melanie Van Weelden. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Center Point Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters, Dixie (Robert) Pinch, Henderson, Nev., Janet (Carl) Railsback, Center Point, and Donna (Richard) Rodriguez, Fullerton, Calif.; nine grandchildren, June (Matt) Hobson and David (Sue) Pinch, both of Washington state, Diane (Mike) Beckstead, Utah, Steve (Nicole) Pinch, Nevada, Karri (Winston) Landers, Texas, Todd (Robyn) Railsback, Toddville, Iowa, Jill (Dave) Wilson, California, Laurie McBride, Alabama, and Betsey (Alex) Garcia, California; 17 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandson; two sisters-in-law, Pat Hansen, Vinton, Iowa, and Elnora Hansen, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; five brothers, Eldred, Leland, Glen, Richard and Albert Hansen; two sisters-in-law; and one great-granddaughter.

Charlotte was born June 14, 1920, the daughter of Abe and Goldie (Seufferlein) Hansen, in La Porte City, Iowa. A 1938 graduate from Urbana High School, she was united in marriage to Donald Whitenack on March 2, 1939, in the old post office at Toddville, Iowa. He died Sept. 14, 1992. Charlotte worked as a nurse’s aide for the Benion Nursing Home in Center Point for over 20 years. They also farmed for many years until they moved to Center Point in 1965.

She was one of the founding members of the West Side County Club. Charlotte and Don enjoyed traveling in their motor home all around the country. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, crocheting and quilting.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers at the Hiawatha Care Center for the excellent care they gave her. She loved everyone there.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Charlotte.
