Russell "Rusty" Weisert

Russell “Rusty” Weisert, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Virginia Gay Hospital from cancer. Private graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery with military rites conducted by Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 of Mount Auburn. Public Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton.

“Rusty” was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Mount Auburn, to Clifford and Ethel (Geltz) Weisert and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. During World War II, he served his nation in the US Air Force. He was a member of Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 of Mount Auburn.

He married Bernadine Kelly in Van Horne on Feb. 20, 1943. She preceded him in death and he married Loretta Jean Mikesell in Belle Plaine on Sept. 11, 1993. She also preceded him in death.

“Rusty” was a machinist at Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids.

He is survived by his daughters, Janice (Jim Sharp) Dake of Swisher, Lani (Larry) Schwarting of South Amana and Marie (Steve) Pohlman of Marengo; six granddaughters; nine great grandchildren; and his sister, Maxine Briggs of Traer.

In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
