Evelyn Encke Wagner

Evelyn Encke Wagner, 81, of Marion, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services for Evelyn will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon.

Surviving Evelyn is her husband, Joseph Wagner, at home. She is also survived by four sons, Bill (Iris) Encke of Dubuque, Erik (Cathy) Encke of Cedar Rapids, Kurt (Shelly) Encke of Tipton and Greg (Lori) Encke of Seattle, Wash.; and six grandchildren, Neil, Alison, Kristy, Deirdre, Sara and Rob.

Evelyn was born the only child of Erik and Svea Johanson on June 25, 1931, in Elizabeth, N.J. The family moved back to their native Sweden, where Evelyn grew up. She returned to the United States when she was 18. She married Robert Encke on Nov. 24, 1951. He died Oct. 6, 1984.

Evelyn was active in Cub Scouts. She worked as a baker at Coe College for many years. She loved to travel, especially to visit her parents in Stockholm.

Evelyn married Joseph Wagner on July 25, 2010. They made their home in Marion, with their beloved pet Joey.
