Gladys L. "Toni" Tonn

Gladys L. “Toni” Tonn, 84, of Waterloo, died of natural causes Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

Born Sept. 22, 1928, in Independence, the daughter of Paul and Emma Wenthe Tonn, she graduated from Independence High School in 1944. She received a Bachelor of Arts in education from Wartburg College and a master’s in education from UNI. Toni taught fifth and sixth grades for over 45 years in Corwith and Postville, retiring from the Waterloo Community school system, where she taught at Black Hawk School.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Survivors include a brother, Charlie (Carolyn) Tonn, Monticello; a sister, Evelyn Tegeler, Fargo, N.D.; sisters-in-law, Joan Tonn, Rowley, and Marge Tonn, Jesup; several nieces and nephews; many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jane Sullivan, Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Rudy, LeRoy and Paul.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo. Burial: Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
