Sharon A. Thompson

Sharon A. Thompson, 70, of Independence, died Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2012, at her home in Independence.

Sharon was born Feb. 2, 1942, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Everett H. and Marian M. (Kress) Nelson. She was a 1960 graduate of Quasqueton High School in Quasqueton, Iowa and attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo for a short time.   On Aug. 23, 1960, she was married to Marvin D. Thompson in Independence. The couple farmed in the Independence area, and Sharon was employed with Micro Switch Co., Independence Feed Co., and Independence Community Schools before becoming a secretary with Dr. John Flage MD for 20 years before her retirement.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin; three children, Kerry (Cherrie) Thompson, O’Fallon, Ill., Kim (Janelle) Thompson, West Des Moines, and Melanie Thompson, Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; her mother, Marian M. Nelson, Independence, Iowa; four sisters. Judy Roberts and Margaret Ownby of Independence, Patricia Nelson, Hawaii, and Connie Harris, Cedar Rapids; and three brothers, Doug Nelson, Tampa, Fla., Dean Nelson, Hawaii, and Brian Nelson, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her father, Everett Nelson, and a sister, Jane Boies.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with the Rev. Sue Ann Raymond officiating. Burial: Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
