Thomas, Phillip
Phillip Thomas passed away at Northbrook Care Center on Jan. 18, 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthann of Cedar Rapids; son, Scott (Jane) of Claremore, Okla.; Dixie Collins (Steve Maravetz) of Mount Vernon; Jim Wick (Elizabeth) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Laura Wick of Seattle, Wash; Sarah Wick of Tiffin and Tom Bryson; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Phil was born Oct. 26, 1924, in West Branch, to Catherine and Bus Thomas. He served in World War II on B17’s as navigator and flew out of England. After the war he returned home and was active in businesses in West Branch and served on the town council and as mayor of West Branch.
Phil worked for the VA and was an advocate for veterans. He lived in many states but enjoyed his years at Lake of the Ozarks the most.
He requested cremation and no services. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
He was a gentleman.
