Edmund B. Steffen

Edmund B. Steffen, 95, of Delhi, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi, where a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial in the church cemetery.

Edmund was born July 31, 1917, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Florian and Mary (Schulte) Steffen. He married Anna Mae Diers on Oct. 15, 1945, in Colesburg, Iowa. Together they purchased a farm near Earlville, Iowa, where they continued to live and raise their family for 40 years. Edmund also owned Steffen’s Livestock in Delhi where he was a hog buyer for many years. He enjoyed fishing when he would take the time to do it. Edmund also liked going to farm machinery auctions. He was a handyman and liked to fix just about anything.

Survivors include his four children, Florian (Karen) Steffen of Maquoketa, Mary (John) Smith of Ryan, Darlene (Delbert) Ronnebaum and Donald (Jackie) Steffen, both of Earlville; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Delores Steffen of Dyersville, Eunice Diers, James (Verna Mae) Diers, both of Colesburg and Jeanette (Conrad) Tegeler of Manchester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Mae in 2008; siblings, Clarence Steffen, Albert (Leone) Steffen, Clara (John) Burbridge, Esther (Donald) Ries and Frances (Leon) Klein; and in-laws, Alice (Edward) Rausch, Joanie Ellerbach and Paul Diers.
