Sorgenfrey, Howard John
Howard John Sorgenfrey, 79, of Lisbon, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his home.
Howard was born Feb. 21, 1933, to Harry and Ella (Kai) Sorgenfrey in Durant, Iowa. He attended the Durant Community Schools. Howard married Patty I. Tumey on Nov. 2, 1952, in Wilton. Howard farmed the majority of his life in Cedar and Jones counties.
He was a member of Onslow Presbyterian Church in Onslow, where he served as a trustee, and currently attended Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. He was an active member of the Jones County Historical Society.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton and one hour before services at the church. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at First Presbyterian Church, Wilton. Interment will take place at the Durant Cemetery, Durant.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Patty of Lisbon; daughters, Barb (Bruce) Jipp of Wiltonand Melody (Todd) Lineburg of Mount Vernon; sons, Larry Sorgenfrey of Wilton, Murray (LuAnne) Sorgenfrey of Tipton, Terry (Gaby) Sorgenfrey of Chatham, Ill., and Jerry (Kim) Sorgenfrey of Wyoming, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary (Mel) Norton of Wilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Roger, James, Kenneth, LeMoyne “Butch” and Stan Sorgenfrey.
In lieu of flowers, Howard requested memorial contributions be made to Camp Wyoming, Wyoming, IA in his memory.
