Shields, Edna Clara
Edna Clara Shields, 72, of Oelwein, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her home. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Geilenfeld Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Edna was born July 17, 1940, to parents August and Viola (Reiter) Ott in Fairbank. She graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in 1958. On Aug. 12, 1961, Edna was united in marriage with John T. Shields at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank.
Edna was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, canning and sewing. She also enjoyed gardening and her spring flowers. Edna was a gifted baker, and her “gingerbread boys” were especially enjoyed by her family. Edna and John enjoyed operating Lund’s Campground near Harpers Ferry for several years. She volunteered at the Mercy Hospital gift shop, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Edna will be dearly missed by all who knew and continue to love her.
Left to celebrate Edna’s life are her husband of 51 years; her son, Jeffrey (Sherri) Shields of West Union; her daughter, Julie Boies of Oelwein; her brother, Dwayne Ott of Fairbank; her grandchildren, Derek, Seth and Kenzie Shields of West Union and Jacob and Alexis Boies of Oelwein; several nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.
In death, Edna has rejoined her parents and her son-in-law, Dan Boies.
