John Anthony Scriven

John Anthony Scriven, 58, passed away at home on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, after doing his best to fight his battle with cancer. Public visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. Sixth St.) in Vinton. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. According to John’s wishes, he will be cremated following the prayer service.

A memorial fund has been established.

John is survived by his wife, Mickey Streeter of Vinton; his sister, Mary Aamold of San Jose, Calif.; and his son, Shaun of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther Scriven.

John spent most of his career doing custodial work at the Cedar Rapids and Vinton-Shellsburg school districts. He loved nature and the many friends he made along the way.
