Imogene F. Schwandt, 95, of Monticello, passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Clifton — Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Earlville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.
Jean was born Oct. 1, 1917, the daughter of Clarence H. and Amy (Brown) Powell on the family farm south of Earlville. In 1924, the family moved to Manchester, returning to Earlville in 1930. Imogene graduated in 1935 and went to work in the telephone office. On July 20, 1940, she was united in marriage to Emil Schwandt in Earlville. Jean also worked with the Girl Scouts during the 1950s. She also worked at Hopkinton Creamery in the 1960s.
Imogene was a Sunday school superintendent and served on the church council for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hopkinton for many years. On March 9, 2003, she then joined St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Monticello.
Jean is survived by her children, Jean (Richard) Leaf of Cedar Rapids, Ronald (Ellen) Schwandt of Norway, Barbara (Gerald) Moser of Wentzville, Mo. and Gary (Marcia) Schwandt of Monticello; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Margaret) Powell of Shell Rock.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Emil in 2000; her parents; a sister, Mary (Carl) Alyce Phillips; and a brother, Curtis (Hazel) Powell.
A memorial fund has been established in Jean’s memory.
