Sahu, Sheilendra (Shail) Kumar
Shailendra (Shail) Kumar Sahu, 66, died surrounded by family Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, after a lengthy illness at Windmill Manor. Traditional Hindu last rites and cremation were performed Feb. 3, 2013. A traditional Hindu memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville.
Shail was born June 5, 1946, in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India, the son of Surendra and Savtri Sahu.
Shail immigrated to United States in 1971 in pursuit of higher education. In 1979, he graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
After graduation, Shail enjoyed a career as a medical researcher at many different hospitals including MD Anderson in Houston, Harvard and most recently, at the University of Iowa. He retired in 2012.
Shail is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mira of Coralville; two sons, Sajan (Carey Ann) of Atkins and Suman; two grandchildren; two brothers of Minneapolis; one brother and six sisters in India; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
