George L. Mottet, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus, with military honors by VFW Post 788. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, with a visitation to follow where friends can visit until 8 p.m. Friends may also visit Saturday after noon at the church.
George is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Debbie (Kevin) Vanourney of Solon; son, Jerry (Kristi) Mottet of Marion; daughter, Jean (Dave) Simbro of Milwaukee, Wis.; son, Tom (Teresa) Mottet of West Bend, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (Charles) Harms of Solon; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Mottet of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard.
George was born May 20, 1929, in Iowa City, the son of Louis and Elnora (Parsons) Mottet. He graduated from Lone Tree High School and was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He married Mary Lou Berthel on April 16, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. George retired in 1992 after 37 years with Cryovac.
George was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Legion, and the VFW Post 788. He loved bowling, playing cards, dining out, and spending time with his family and friends. George was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals.
He will be greatly missed by all.
