Monaghan, Gerald 'Jerry'
Gerald “Jerry” Monaghan, 62, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Monti, entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines from complications of diabetes. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 5, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti.
Gerald Vincent Monaghan was born Aug. 11, 1947, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Patrick Vincent and Eleanor McAleer Monaghan. He graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his sister, Jane Ellen Monaghan.
Survivors include his mother, Eleanor of Independence; his brother Robert, “Bob” (Sharon) Monaghan of Independence; and four sisters, Jean Ann (Dan) Dolan of Castle Rock, Colo., Janet (John) Carroll of Granger, Judy (Mike) Ferreter of Independence and Joan (Jeff) Temeyer of Independence.
