Misra, Dr. Sudhakar M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Sudhakar Misra, M.D., Ph.D., 57, died Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2013, following a sudden and massive cardiac arrest, at his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Sudhakar is survived by his wife, Arti; and two daughters, Kiran and Anjali.
Other bereaved family members in attendance are his mother, Lakshmi; his older brother, Dr. Prabhakar Misra; and his sister-in-law, Suneeta; as well as his brothers-in-law, Bharat, Rahul and his wife, Shubha and Vivek Dixit.
Sudhakar was born Sept. 12, 1956, at Unnao, India, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Prem Krishna and Lakshmi (nee Awasthi) Misra. Sudhakar graduated from Neel Ratan Sircar Medical School, Kolkata, India, with highest distinction. He earned his Master’s degree in Surgery from the Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (West Bengal). Sudhakar came to the United States in 1989 and obtained medical specialty training and certifications in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Medical College of Virginia where he also earned a Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. After working for several years at VCU and various hospitals in Virginia, Dr. Misra settled down to a private specialty group practice in Cedar Rapids, where he was one of the principal gastroenterologists.
Dr. Misra was loved and much respected by his patients and co-workers. Words cannot express the sorrow of his passing. Sudhakar’s presence, advice, leadership and love will never be forgotten by them or anyone whom he befriended.
