David was preceded in death by his father
David was born June 13, 1961, in Sioux City, the son of Richard and Corinne Huffman Meyer. He married Marlene Gieselman on July 31, 1983, in Sioux City. David had been a teacher at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids for eight years. David graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1979, and from Morningside College with a BA in Music Education in 1984. David received an endorsement in Special Education from Mount Mercy University where he was currently working on his Master's Degree.
David loved life, his family and friends, riding his motorcycle and especially teaching. He played tennis most of his life and competed on a national championship tennis team. His affection for tennis carried through as a teacher where he served as tennis coach producing several state tennis champions. David, a music enthusiast, enjoyed listening to a wide range of music that included jazz, classical and Pink Floyd. His love of life included planting and caring for over 100 varieties of hostas in his yard and maintaining a salt water fish tank. David had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for his keen ability to debate longer than anyone else except perhaps for his father or daughter, but David would surely debate that.
A memorial fund has been established in David's name.
