Wade Merfeld

Wade Merfeld, 55, of Monticello, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, peacefully on his couch. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, where a funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Keith Birch will officiate.

Wade was born Sept. 24, 1957, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Carl and Peg (Lewis) Merfeld. He graduated with the class of 1976 from Monticello High School. He began his working career at Julin Printing in Monticello, then took a few years to travel with the carnival. Upon his return he began at Cascade Die Mold (now Medplast) as a setup technician for the last 25 years.

Wade was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved taking pictures while on his travels. When describing Wade, everyone called him a big teddy bear with a heart of gold.

Surviving are his father, Carl; siblings, Dave (Carol), Dan (Lynn), Amy (friend Dave Johnson) Bartels, Brad (friend Tanda Foster) and Gregg (Peg), all of Monticello; 12 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1988; a brother-in-law, Roger Bartels in 2009; a great-nephew, Justis Curry in 2010; his grandparents and a few aunts and uncles.
