McFate, Ian Michael
Ian Michael McFate, 13, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines due to injuries suffered in a vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 900 Park St., Tama, with Pastor Brian Oliver of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 8 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.
Ian was born May 6, 1999, in Overland Park, Kan., the son of Mark and Christine (McCune) McFate.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo. Ian was an 8th grader at South Tama Middle School, where he was active in band, chorus, and cross country. Ian played STC Rec tennis, golf and soccer. He was a member of the American Taekwondo Association in Toledo. Ian was very much looking forward to attending high school and participating in the various activities.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Delmar and Edna Mae (Mikkelson) McFate.
Survivors include his parents, Mark and Chris of Toledo; his sisters, Morgan of Cedar Falls and Mackenzie, at home; his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Barb McCune of Toledo; his aunts and uncles, Deb and Doug Rassler of Palo, Mark McCune and Janice Coleman of Cedar Rapids, Ron and Lucy McFate of Tama, Danna and Wayne Peterson of Spring Hill, Fla., and Marlene and Dennis Burkheimer of Ames; his cousin, Megan Rosenberger; and several other cousins.
A memorial fund has been established.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is handling the arrangements.
