Main, Paul Leroy
Paul Leroy Main, 95, of Coggon, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Manor Care, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Silver Creek United Methodist Church, rural Ryan. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon, with military honors.
Survivors include his daughters, Paula Main of North Liberty and Ruth Main (Dean) Soenksen of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Anna and Tyler Soenksen; stepgranddaughter, Samantha Soenksen; brother-in-law, Bernard Evers; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Evers and Mary Main.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; granddaughter, Amanda Soenksen; and siblings, Helen Chambers, Ruth Detlefsen, Esther Reece, Harold Main and Lee Main.
Paul was born June 24, 1917, in Coggon, the son of Thomas and Ella Mae (Eckert) Main. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II as a medic. Paul married Elsie Evers on Oct. 4, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Elsie died Jan. 31, 2005. Following his military service, Paul started farming and continued until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church.
