Michael Gene Maddigan

Michael Gene Maddigan, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at his home. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Michael’s life from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Xavier’s, 1401 First Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Robert Maddigan of Denver, Colo., Patrick Mahan Maddigan of Chicago and Molly Maureen Maddigan of Cedar Rapids; brothers, John “Jack” (Barbara) Davidson of Lakewood, Colo., Timothy Maddigan of Oelwein and Kevin Maddigan of Oelwein; sisters, Colleen Johnson, Maureen Maddigan, Kathleen Maddigan, all of Cedar Rapids, Eileen (Danny) Ladimer of Leesburg, Ga., and Mary (Pat) Bresnahan of Aurora, Colo.; and his former wife, Jacki Knapp of Cedar Rapids.

Michael was born May 20, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert and Margaret (McSwiggan) Maddigan. He attended Loras College and the University of Iowa, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1971, followed by two years of law school. On June 19, 1982, he married Jacki Knapp in Cedar Rapids. Michael was a driver for Howell Ambulance and Area Ambulance for many years. Later he retired from the Iowa State Department of Human Services.

He had a great love for books and spent many years appraising and selling rare books.

Michael will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Patrick, Thomas, Terry and Kelly; and his aunt, Alice Johnston.
